The Kips Bay Decorator Show House is a New York fundraiser for The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. Famous designers design individual rooms within a residence and create amazing interiors. Scratch that,…they create art. A friend of mine tweeted that it seemed a little “Halloween House” for her tastes. But at it’s heart, livability is not what the intention of the house is. It’s about pushing bounds and making something worth paying money to see in person. It could be the future of Interior Design; one part museum and one part crystal ball. I say it’s art. READ MORE

Monday night, I had the pleasure of meeting architect and designer Campion Platt. Have you met him in person? Very dashing (He has the look of a 50’s movie star). However, I was most impressed by his thoughtful approach to design and versatility. The lecture highlighted the breadth of his portfolio. From country home to New York loft, contemporary, classic, big, small, Campion is a jack of all trades. READ MORE

Camille Maurice: Kips Bay 2011: Boys Club
John Hay Whitney, or “Jock” as he was known to his friends, was early 20th century New York’s epitome of a man’s man. While attending Yale University he allegedly coined the term “crew cut” while participating as an oarsman. Later, he attended Oxford before coming home upon the death of his father and inheriting the family fortune. Soon after, he became the youngest member ever elected to the famed Jockey Club, through which he raced his prized Thoroughbreds in addition to his affinity for playing polo. READ MORE
