Campion Platt’s Top South Fork Home Finds
Designer and Made to Order author Campion Platt scours the South Fork for his favorite home finds.
English Country Antiques
I love English Country Antiques. I used to shop at the Bridgehampton location, but the Southampton store is unusually large with many levels, so it feels more like a furnished house. The various areas are all vignettes, set up like actual rooms, which really helps with scaling furniture. Store manager Al Spokavicius is very knowledgeable and helpful. My picks? Get inspired to head out sailing with these Lucky Number Pillows and chest made of shells, or hang this forever-modern Tree of Life in your beach abode. I also love this French clock tower replica. 53 N. Sea Road, 204-0428; SouthamptonR.E. Steele
Russ has been a friend and his store a mainstay on my shopping list for years—it is a true designer hangout. In his new annex (adjacent to the old store), he cherry-picks the very best and offers funny stories to go along with the furniture. I would love to own this Bethany Fancher photograph and Swedish cabinet, which look perfect together. And this Paul Evans cabinet, with the faceted front in burl wood, is rare. I was also very comfortable in this Gio Ponti chair, from which I noticed the hand-blown Murano fish. I had to grab it; it is a perfect summer accent, or perhaps a quirky wedding or housewarming gift. 74 Montauk Hwy., East Hampton, 324-7812Mecox Gardens
Mecox Gardens is like home away from home. I have been shopping here for years, for items modern to classic, and it never disappoints. Mac Hoak has also created custom lines of furniture and accessories perfect for the country home. My covetables here include a French glazed vase, a Downward Dog outdoor concrete table, a large-rimmed planter, a unique Starlight table lamp, and a six-leg linen and wood bench and cane arm chair (NOT SHOWN) that would add extra seating in the most stylish way possible. The three-drawer Eglomise console, tufted Dakota queen bed and wood-slat chandelier all would be welcome additions to any home, in summer or any other season. 57 County Road 39A, Southampton, 800-487-4854H. Groome
H Groome has a clever eye for the discerning Hamptons client. The shop is curated with an eco-approach to interiors and has great tableware and accessories. These Lucite trays are made by Alexandra von Furstenberg. Refracted light produces the vibrant color palettes, which are yellow, cobalt blue, fuchsia, grass green and bronze. They are available in three sizes and are perfect for summer, but also great year-round. H Groome merchandises its pillows, throws and quilts by color scheme, so they are easy to navigate; this particular grouping offers beautiful oranges, peaches, fuchsias and pinks. Featured are Madeline Weinrib handmade ikat pillows, which are made in India. The knitted multicolored throw is by Missoni, and the herringbone cotton ones are hand-knitted in Maine. The featured colors are Plum and Honeysuckle, but they are available in a wide range of summer shades. 9 Main St., Southampton, 204-0491Hildreth’s
As the oldest shop of its kind—the store has been open since 1842—Hildreth’s offers the full spectrum of interiors. It has great linens in its soaring (quite literally—it reaches the ceiling) towel department. There is something for everyone here, with a comprehensive DIY department and a monstrous furniture selection, ready for next-day delivery. I love these Periwinkle micro cotton-terry plush towels, available in three sizes. And this wool-hooked Southampton “Town” pillow is fun; other towns are available if you hail from elsewhere. Finally, the Hildreth’s Bath Shop carries all your bath accessory needs and luxury spa essentials. 51–55 Main St., Southampton, 283-2300
