V&M Curate Your Life: Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club Decoractor Show House 2011

Campion Platt’s club room is a celebration of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House mansion’s former owner, Jock Whitney, and imagines Jock returning to his New York residence a celebrated ambassadorship abroad.

Platt subtly layered Jock’s club room with remembrances of a more stately time, yet retaining the highly polished classical millwork and graciously curving corners of the space. The understated use of colors in the ensemble is equally matched by the restrained detailing of custom designed upholstery, while the windows are embellished by soft shimmering floor to ceiling solar shades. The room is layered with fine examples of early 20th century antiques on loan from Bernd Goeckler Antiques, Donzella, Lost City Arts, Fred Silberman and Todd Merrill Antiques. All furniture rests neatly on an industrial wool and goat hair wall-to-wall carpet and a set of custom sconces illuminate the room. A collection of contemporary art includes works by Ralph Gibson, Jenny Holzer, Robert Mangold, Adam Sheffer and Alex Prager’s “Sunday” 2010 video as a nod to Jock’s love of everything equestrian.
